Threads like this are good, as they always expose a few intolerant assholes you didn't know about so you won't have to waste your time being associated with them in any way, shape, or form in the future.

Aside from the rat-hole, there is no game mechanics for wedding two toons.

There was, however, two people from ArenaNet that worked on this game that were engaged (or married, I forgot) in real life during the BWE's. THey decided to also get together in-game with their toons for an exchange-of-skill-ring ceremony in the presence of their friends who also brough their toons to the game to witness. It obviously is a symbolic, fun gesture for the couple to recognized they spent a lot of time working on the game that they are obviously proud of. I'm not privvy to their personal life details, of course, but it could be that they met each other while employed and worked on this game at ArenaNet. That last part would just be speculation on my part.

yes ... I believe it was more for the pleasure of the Anet team. and hey when developing a game {test the waters right}

okay so I hope marriage doesn't occur in this mmo ... and the yinstead focus on developing the actual guildhall {this is guildwars right ... not threes company} and i read an interview with Grey making this a fact that they intend to do. (factual not rumour)

anyways, for the nerd part, we are all nerds ... I am ... proud to be too ... when we actual fess up and are open ABOUT being a nerd ... we are more open to stimulating conversation and not the ... {stfu man, u suck ... cant u play your role ... wtfomg, get bent, I have to take shet dont look!, U DO WHAT I SAY! om freakin god w00twooo} daily immature behaviour you see all too often.

In fact I had one of the most stimulating conversation late last night in lions arch with Delmon something, windies, and a few more regarding tactics, skills, and poeple ... this is why I play a mmo ... for the game, and for the sensible people (i know my opinion of sensible varies from yours) ...

As far as encountering "sensible" people goes, I find Guildwars to be the worst MMO game I've ever played, excluding all those free web-based games. I think that Guildwars attracts a younger (less mature) audience because it has no monthly fee, and so Junior doesn't have to convince Daddy to lend him the credit card. I've found that the community has gotten worse and worse in the weeks since release. When you're more likely than not to get stuck with some kid drawing penises on the minimap or dropping out right after a mission's bonus, something is definitely wrong. I'm sure that there are decent, mature players out there, but it's getting progressively more difficult to find them. Just compare the posts in the forum from a month ago with the ones this past week.

To me, at lease, the community is by far the worst part of Guild Wars, and it only seems to be getting worse.

edit Hrm, should probably post something on-topic. Well, I've never really seen any attraction in in-game marriages. It's just a little bothersome (to me, at least) that the person I'm "marrying" could be some creepy forty year old guy living in his mother's basement. That said, to each their own, and I'm not about to pass judgement or toss around "nerd" labels just because someone wants to have an in-game wedding. However, whether marriages are worth siphoning resources away from other features is open to debate...

I agree with the progressively worse and younger omfgwtf go to hell crowd drawing penises and writing the words boobs on the minimap.

Or talking in all caps lock all the time!? never got that one ... but there are alot of good poeple out there. Starting a conversation on the right foot can reveal this (through 1 shred of an intellectual question to them ...)

Also, finding yourself a good guild is always an option for a good community.

Otherwise you will be privy to the lowly PUGS which include many of the 'immature crowd' that run and call you 'u jerk, why didnt u heal me ... u let me die a--hole' (pardon my language if I get outta hand, mods)

------- I dont believe Marriages are worth taking Anets time up ---------

1. PVPers want guildhall improvement

2. PVPers want more maps for PVP play

3. PVEers are seeking desperately new content (land, storys) ...

4. PVEers are desperately seeking new and exciting monsters to hunt

5. PVEers and PVPers alike are seeking new equiptment, weapons armor items etc, skills

6. Anet would be better to sit and have coffee and play the gamel, or go on vacation, instead of waste time implementing marriage systems

Basically marriages I see as no where on there future map (imo of course) which I can be thankful for (heres hopin they dont implement them tonight or I just shot myself in the foot haha)

I don't know, I consider myself more of a geek, then a nerd, but I suppose that's all in the definition. I actually read an article once compare/contrasting geeks with nerds. Basically it said that nerds are the pocket protector-wearing, calculus-in-the-head-doing, weird-voice/laugh-performing people with no social skills whatsoever we all know from the Revenge of the Nerds movies. The article claimed that geeks are the roleplaying/CCG fans who have some sort of a social life, but mainly with other geeks.
And Mistress Eyahl, I would probably consider fans of online rpg's fellow geeks, but I mean it as a compliment and not an insult. We're our own subculture now, and the world is starting to realize it. Yay for us! LOL

I suppose I should post something on topic, heh. I have no opinion of online marriages one way or the other. I would assume that it would be something done in RP groups when they get together to just RP scenarios, and I don't see anything wrong with that. It's just people having fun playing their characters. On the other hand, I'd never see myself doing it. I mean...it would take quite the virtual woman to tame THIS wild ranger. Rawr...hehe

A marriage system would be quite pointless and in my opinion, pathetic.

This game has a WIDE variety of people. I would stereotype everyone being a nerd.

I'll accept being a nerd. Rather be a nerd than a porn star I guess...

Oh, I don't know about that. I think it'd be pretty cool to be a geek AND a porn star...I mean, not that I'm not already...being the studly manbeast that I am. Heh.

I hope they don't add a marriage system. It would turn this game too far in the Everquest direction.

Amen! Marriage is the single worst idea for a game ever. For Devs it does make a little more sense, since they do have alot invested, and one can only presume they know each other.

For those who meet online and get 'married online' --so many words, but today Ill only go with SAD.

it really depends on how it is done, for example in DAoC, marriage does nothing for you except allow you to change your last name to the same as your spouse (which you can do without the "wedding", but this way it is free) and you can be married to as many people as you want, which just makes it fun, and adds to the private jokes you have with people. I dont like it when a marriage gives you skills or stuff that effect how you play (eg. Ragnarok)
